Poverty is a reality for many individuals and families. It’s difficult to truly understand its effects unless you have walked in those shoes. In order to make a true and lasting impact in our missions, we must realize the challenges faced by our clients. Our Poverty Walk experience takes participants from misconception to understanding. This is a necessity when developing and analyzing service methods and outcomes.
What?
This is an interactive immersion experience that sensitizes community participants to the realities of poverty. During this simulation, participants walk in the shoes of a low-income family. Immediately following, we have a debriefing opportunity for participants to share their experience and discuss community change.
Who?
This is a terrific experience for any individual or organization that serves the low-income population….nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, churches, government agencies and the like. Board members and staff alike will be given a whole new perspective, greater appreciation for the choices of our customers AND an increased respect for clients.
